the 4:8 YOU

By donna - Posted on 17 June 2009

Who are you?

Have you ever done something when everything seemed to go better than you had hoped and felt as though you were finally in a "peak" moment.  Maybe it was an evening with your spouse where you connected  and felt closer than ever?  Or at work you had a super successful day in the office when you worked way above your expectations or earned your largest check?  Perhaps you were playing baseball (go 24/6ers!) or some sport and played way beyond what you felt you had ever done before?

Have you ever noticed that in those peak moments more often than not, we will often discount the experience or assign it to "good luck" or that that was just a "special moment"?  Something inside us, tells us that despite the evidence you really don't have the skills to handle the situation your in and perform like that ALL the time.  That if you accomplish something on this level, it must just be "luck" or whatever.  BUT the truth is that these peak moments, when you appear to playing over your head are actually glmpses of your full potential.  Why not look at the closeness with your spouse, the successful day at the office or playing "in the zone"  as a direct result of WHO WE REALLY ARE!

Unfortunately we tend to distance ourselves from our best moments explaining them away as "exceptions to the rule" with the rule being our current pucture of ourselves.  On the other hand if we have a rough day on the golf course or a bad day at the office, we tend to overidentify with the experience and think "this must be the true me"

Tommy Newberry says in his book "The 4:8 Principle"   "The difference  between the amatuer and a world class athlete illustrates this clearly.  The amatuer athlete when he plays the best game ever says, "wow I must be lucky today, I wish I could play like this all the time!"  World class athletes on the other hand when they play a bad game, say "wow that is so unlike me, I'll be playing my "A" game tomorrow."

You see, the world class athlete knows his potential because he has taken the time to train, and position himself to win.  He KNOWS his potential.  The next time you goof something up, continue to remind yourself of what is lovely, true, gracious, and worthy of praise...about you.  Begin to believe that "peak performance" is the real you, the 4:8 YOU.  Begin to embrace your God-given identity.  Your self concept either expands or restricts your potential.  Remember your self image determines your harvest.  When we fine tune our thinking to conform to Phil 4:8 everything begins to change.

Here is the key for today: How you percieve yourself sets the ceiling for what God can do with you. ( I KNOW - that's huge!)

So today make the choice to wrap your self image around the 4:8 YOU!

xoxox

Have a phenomonal day!!

Choose to see yourself as more than a conqueor! ( Romans 8:37)

Choose to believe you are a child of God that is LAVISHED- no matter what we've done or haven't done- with love! ("How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called the sons of God" I John 3:1)

Choose to believe you are His masterpiece! ("We are God's masterpiece, he has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the things he planned for us long ago" Eph 2:10)
